Because I have to get to work, I'm just going to repost what I said on Facebook:

I've been the organiser for Vancouver (BC) CSTS since the beginning - in 2006. I do it because I'm a Joss fan who wants to say thank you to him for all that he has given me/us - not just entertaining shows, but ones I watch over and over and think about in between. I also believe whole-heartedly in the work done by Equality Now around the world.

When the decision was made that 25% of the proceeds of the event could go to local charities, we decided to do that - first 10%, then 20% and the past couple of years 25%. It does help with local recognition - one of our charities is BC Women's Hospital & Health Centre Foundation, which is also a favourite of Jewel Staite's, so there is still a connection there. But I have never heard people complain about supporting EN. We show Joss's EN speech every year - and now the powerful piece he wrote for EN's 20th anniversary, plus we include pictures and facts in our PowerPoint presentation.

Fighting for women and girls around the world is important and I would support this cause even if it weren't Joss's favourite charity, but would I have heard about it if this were not the case? Probably not. So to me, it is not just raising money for Equality Now, but raising awareness of what they do and why it is necessary. Please vote and next year support your local CSTS event - or start one yourself. There are people on the Global team - and forums - that are more than willing to offer their expertise to help you get started and encourage you along the way. After doing this for eight years, I can say this is one of the most fulfilling activities I've ever done - and one of which I am very proud.
