Back again! This year, Halifax returns to a single night for the main screening event. Saturday August 17, there will be 2 shows (seating capacity ~65 for each) at the Carbon Arc Cinema, Museum of Natural History Auditorium, 1747 Summer Street, Halifax. Serenity will run at 6 pm and 10 pm, with Dr. Horrible at 5 and 9. As in years past, we'll have themed food and drink, costumes, locally-produced Jayne hats, a silent auction, trivia contest, and some great door prizes. We're hoping Fat Apollo will return to host an Evil Laugh contest. Tickets remain $10 and will go on sale soon via the website; paper tickets will be available at a couple of locations in Halifax (TBA) closer to the event date.

In addition, we are expanding to include two Affiliate nights this year, at which we will be showing The Guild! It looks like the Carbon Arc is not able to accommodate us for these, so the plan is to hold them at our original CSTS 2011 location, on the 3rd floor of the Khyber Arts building. Friday June 21 and Friday July 26 - further details pending.

After some unexpected glitches, I was afraid this wouldn't happen...but we are confirmed! Next Friday, July 26, 7:30 pm, we are screening seasons 1 and 2 of The Guild.

The Guild affiliate event last night was a tiny little shindig, but the nine of us had a fun time! Some laughs, some good conversation, and I only needed eight to break even on the room rental.

Didn't raise much ($18), but given the short notice for publicity (due to cinema glitch) and the fact we clashed with Halifax Pride and a couple of large music events, I wasn't expecting much of a crowd. People who came enjoyed themselves, and a number of people expressed regret they were out of town etc., so hopefully the event did its other job of reminding people we're here and setting them up for the main event in August.

It's a wrap!

Attendance was down this year, but we did better on the silent auction (although it's never as good as I think it should be - autographs and merchandise in particular seem to go for a song relative to what they do elsewhere), and it looks like we've raised just over $1400. The crowd was a dedicated and happy one, and at the late show, we had a group of seven come in coordinating costumes (as the entire surviving cast at the end of the movie, which apparently was a coincidence!)

We had a couple of technical glitches - we did all the tech ourselves this year, as the indie cinema was not able to provide any volunteer staff - but luckily we had a costumed stand-up comedian who kept the crowd entertained while we sorted things out.

There will be a full post with pictures up on our website later (hopefully one of our crew will post that tonight). I am off into the backcountry wilderness of Kejimkujik National Park for a canoe trip for the next few days, but I'll update with links as soon as I'm back.

Congrats on the event despite the technical difficulties.

I find that at our auction the autographed items do not always do as well as we think they should.
