I am running a "getting healthy" (aka weight loss) pledge drive called Healthy Giving. It starts this Friday, January 23rd and runs until my 27th birthday on May 23rd. Proceeds from the drive are going to be benefiting The Kids Need to Read Foundation (KNTR). For those unfamiliar with KNTR, it's a non-profit organization that raises funds to purchase books which are donated to underfunded schools and libraries. KNTR was founded by author PJ Haarsma and Nathan Fillion.

The pledge drive will run for four months, and pledges are taken by per pound lost based on how much total weight is lost during the drive timeline. One time donations are also accepted. Anyone who pledges or donates is eligible for a prize drawing at the conclusion of the pledge drive. The prize package (filled with Browncoat goodies) has been generously donated by the Austin Browncoats, primary sponsor of the Healthy Giving Pledge Drive. All pledges and donations are tax-deductible, and donation receipts are provided.

I've been a volunteer for KNTR for a while, and am excited to have this opportunity to give back to the organization.

Why am I posting this here? Yes, CSTS is dedicated to Equality Now. However, I believe that Browncoats are an amazing group of people, and are adept at spreading the word for a variety of good causes. Even if you are unable to pledge to the drive, just spread the word about it. Every little bit helps!

I think it's an excellent cause and giving Is giving. :D There are many of us who support KNTR and both CSTS and "Healthy" are very worthy causes. I'm sending out emails to everyone I know. Congrats on an idea that is a double win.

Well, my pledge drive has concluded. I have to say, it's been very successful.

It's been a long road, and I've still got a ways to go, but it's been fun and a bit frustrating at the same time. I'm so glad that I decided to put this fundraiser together. It's been so helpful having you guys rooting for me the whole way!

For those who made pledges, I'll be contact you with information about your final contribution.

Healthy Giving
May 23rd, Final Checkin

Final Weight: 175 lbs
Pounds Lost This Week: -1 (1 lb gained)
Pounds Lost Total: 18
Final total raised (pledges + donations) = $715.00 USD

I'll have more photos tomorrow, but here were a few we managed to grab today.

Photos are a little large, so I didn't put them here. Follow the links below!
