Pittsburgh's 9th annual Can't Stop the Serenity event will take place on Saturday, August 16, 2014. This year we'll be moving our event to the historic Hollywood Theater in Dormont. Our event will kick off at 5PM with games and raffles, and our Serenity screening will be at 7PM.

As an added bonus, the Hollywood Theater will screen a second Joss Whedon film of their choosing at 10PM that evening, and all of CSTS Pittsburgh's games and raffles will remain open until the conclusion of the late show.

We're all manner of excited to be partnering with a shiny independent theater like the Hollywood, and we're thrilled we'll be screening Serenity on a big screen in a proper movie theater setting this year. More details about CSTS Pittsburgh 2014 will be coming soon.

Any guesses what the 2nd movie might be?

Your event always sounds so fun. I hope you're still doing it in a few years when I might be able to make it out ;)

We're thinking that the second movie is likely to be Cabin in the Woods (actually, it's what we're hoping for), but that choice will be entirely up to the Hollywood Theater, since they are handling the licensing and they get to keep the box office for the 10PM film as per our rental agreement. I suppose they could always go with something like Much Ado About Nothing, Alien Resurrection or Titan AE, or even something everyone knows Joss worked on in an uncredited capacity like Speed. The only one I think it's safe to say you won't see is Toy Story. (It doesn't quite fit the mood of the evening and you won't attract many kiddies to a 10PM show!)

As for our still doing it in a few years, Pittsburgh has been with CSTS from the beginning and I intend for us to keep flying for many years to come. I don't intend to step down as cap'n here for a while, and she will not fall out of the sky on my watch! So hey, however long it may take, you're always welcome to come on out and misbehave with us! :D

Pittsburgh's 9th annual Can't Stop the Serenity charity screening will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the historic Hollywood Theater in Dormont, PA. The doors will open at 5PM for an evening packed with all the misbehavin' we can sneak under the Alliance's radar, including games, raffles and a showing of Serenity on the big screen at 7PM. (The Hollywood will follow up Serenity with a late screening of another Joss Whedon film of their choosing. Still no word on what film that will be.)

JUST ANNOUNCED: This year we'll also have a special Browncoat music and trivia mixer at Fredo's Market Deli (just down the street from the Hollywood) from 3-5PM, where Browncoats can get great food, mingle, play team trivia to win prizes and hear a great acoustic performance from singer/songwriter Sean Faust.

And of course we're doing it all to help the shiny folk at Equality Now!

Our thanks to Geek Pittsburgh (http://www.geekpittsburgh.com), who will be sponsoring Can't Stop the Serenity Pittsburgh again this year.

If you attended our Serenity screening at the Hollywood Theater on August 16, 2014, we'd appreciate it if you take a brief survey and let us know how we did. It will help us make next year's event even better. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Here's the link. Have at it:

A nice piece on small theatres and what they host, including CSTS, along with pictures.
