We are switching things up this year in Halifax, and joining forces with Hal-Con, which bills itself as "the biggest, geekiest sci-fi convention in Atlantic Canada." Hal-Con has been a sponsor of CSTS Halifax for years, donating weekend passes and guest photo-ops that have been star attractions in our auctions and door prize draws. It draws thousands of fans from all over the East Coast and beyond, and we hope this will allow as many Browncoats as possible to join in the ten year celebration of CSTS.* Many thanks to the Global team for giving us permission to hold our event outside the usual window in order to take advantage of this opportunity.
Hal-Con takes place at the World Trade & Convention Centre, 1800 Argyle Street, Halifax. They are donating the space, meaning we are able to show Dr. Horrible, to be followed by an Evil Laugh contest. We'll also be having a sing-along of "Gorram Them All" (the 'Verse version of Barrett's Privateers) and the Hero of Canton, together with our usual trivia contest, silent auction, and door prizes, before the Big Damn Movie.
A convention pass is required to attend. There are still about 900 Friday passes available online: http://www.hal-con.com/tickets
. Admission to CSTS is by donation. We're hoping people will be generous with donations and with their auction bids! Costumes are encouraged. Let us know if you need a hat to complete yours...
*On a personal note, I hope this will also build a stronger bond between Hal-Con and CSTS, and potentially allow for future CSTS Halifax events to thrive under Hal-Con's banner. This is my fifth year as the lead Halifax organizer, and I think it will be my last.
