Portland, OR is starting to plan. We're really excited about year 4!

Hear ye! Hear ye! Come one, come all! To Portland's 2009 Can't Stop the Serenity event!

This year we will be raising money for Equality Now with the help of Cinema 21. The event will be two screenings, an all ages starting at 5 pm and a later 21+ starting at 11 pm, on Saturday June 27th at Cinema 21. There will be fun, excitement, and we've got some great ideas for each screening. The details aren't all ironed out yet so stay tuned for more announcements including how you can get your tickets and how you too can help out with this fabulous event!

The PDX Browncoats, a local nonprofit group comprised of fans of Joss Whedon’s “Firefly”, are gearing up for their 4th annual Can’t Stop the Serenity event screening of the movie Serenity to benefit Equality Now. Equality Now (http://www.equalitynow.org) is an organization that works to end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world through the mobilization of public pressure. The screenings started locally in Portland, but have become a global phenomenon raising more than $250,000 for Equality Now, with Portland alone raising over $28,000 since the first events in 2006.

For our 4th annual screening, we are excited to return to Cinema 21. This year, we will hold two screenings. The first screening will be all ages. Doors open at 3PM. We are very excited to announce that Portland’s second screening will be the first ever Special Hell showing of Serenity. Have you ever wanted to shout your favorite lines at the screen? Tell the actors to watch out? Warn Wash before that crucial moment when he meets his fate? This is your chance! The Special Hell screening allows us, the fans, to poke a little fun at our favorite Joss Whedon film. And who better to make fun of it than those who love it most? Doors for the second show will open at 10:30 PM. Cinema 21 will be serving beer and wine so the late show will be 21 and older.

The fun doesn’t stop there! As we did in 2006, we will be teaming up with the Gypsy to bring you a pub quiz, costume contest, and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog Karaoke! Come to the early screening, stay for the fun at the Gypsy, and come back to have your say at the second show!

I know we've sold at least two tickets. Will hopefully get an update from our theater next week with the cold hard numbers. I'm so excited!

Great news! Scott Allie, Joss Whedon's editor at Dark Horse Comics, will join us at our screening to talk about his work on the Serenity comics and hopefully to give us hints at what's to come. (He makes no promises.) Scott has been very generous with his time in the past and we are so excited he's joining us again to support this great cause!

But will he be singing any Dr. Horrible karaoke?

Yay! We'll keep an eye out for low flyin' craft. Voodoo donuts available upon arrival. I think that counts as refueling, right?

Portland was a hit! We had such a great group of people come out to see the movie and to experience the very first Special Hell. It was a great success. Lines were shouted, laughs were had. We had some out of town visitors in the form of Traevynn and her posse from Seattle. I was really excited to finally get to meet her. The pub quiz was so much fun. We actually came up with a third round on the fly and had a pretty good showing from the people participating. All in all a great event. We'll have photos soon and I really have to brag about our Dr. Horrible buttons, because they were amazing. I can't wait to show them off.
