We're very willing to hold a screening in Bristol, UK. We've made contact with a helpful sounding cinema.

I have a friend over in England who is interested in attending but the Bristol link on the home page doesn't actually lead me to any information about a Can't Stop The Serenity event. Is there any update on this?

I believe their event is called "BRITISH BROWNCOAT CEILIDH" which is what's on the site at http://www.kumara.org.uk/ Since the profits are going to Equality Now. I could be wrong though.

We are still looking for a venue for the film. The hotel have sadly refused. The local cinemas have been frighteningly expensive, as are the city council offices and the University lecture halls.

However, the Ceilidh is expanding into something of a one day mini convention:-

Just agreed with the Bristol Fantasy and SF Society!

2.30p.m. - 5 (ish)

PANELS [45 minutes each approx]

1. Tie-in novels

2. Sci-fi vs Fantasy

3. British vs American Sci-fi

4. To be voted on by attendees

There are also going to have a number of tables selling stuff including books and art work [prints available].

Entry to all of this will be included with your £20 ticket

www.kumara.org.uk

We will carry on attempting to find an affordable venue for the film.

just as long as you can work out what money comes in from people coming to see serenity/DrH and that it goes to EN, it sounds like it'll be fun!

From the CSTS Event Update:

Plan for a whole weekend of Browncoat fun in Bristol, with Can't Stop the Serenity plus the British Browncoat Ceilidh! Serenity and Dr Horrible will screen on Friday 25 September at Mickey Lavins on Denmark Street. Doors open at 7pm and the event kicks off at 7:30pm. Tickets for the CSTS event cost just £5 each.

You can also support Equality Now by attending the Browncoat Ceilidh. In association with the Bristol Fantasy and SF Society, the Browncoat Ceilidh will include a mini-convention at the Mercure Holland House Hotel & Spa and will cost just £20. There will be special guests, panels, and dealers, with the Firefly themed shindig on Saturday evening. All profits from the Browncoat Ceilidh will be donated to Equality Now. There are a whole host of items up for auction at the events, so check http://www.kumara.org.uk for more details.

Hi. Brief report from our screening!
****
First off, the numbers.

Venue = FREE!

12 tickets bought in advance = £60

[2 no shows on the night]

8 tickets sold at the door = £40

Money made from selling/auctioning merchandise = £59

Money deducted from total to cover Customs' duty imposed on goody package :-( = £29.99

Grand total of net profit = £130.01
[Will be coming to you very shortly!]

We started off with the CSTS dvd-r, then 'Dr Horrible'. I heard people singing along quietly! Indeed, I was joining in myself! We next had a quick 'comfort' break and auction off of your supplied goodies, plus we sold 3 home-made Jayne hats as well! Then on to 'Serenity'. By that time it was 11 p.m. so we all said goodbye to each other and headed home, tired and happy!

To clarify, the British Browncoat Ceilidh brought in 467 pounds, the screening of Serenity brought in an additional 137 pounds, for a total of 604 pounds. This converted to $977.45 USD, which is how we show the totals here in the US.
