Our plan is to make the Nashville CSTS a two day event, with a party Saturday night, brunch Sunday, and a matinee viewing on Serenity. We're aiming for July 18-19. Any ideas? UPDATE: Dates are now confirmed - August 7-9, 2009 @ Camp Y.I. 599 Jones Mill Rd. LaVergne, TN. Details below |

You guys could show Dr. Horrible at your party on Saturday night. Horrible costume contest, maybe? Any ideas on location yet? (for Saturday or Sunday) |

Joss Whedon and his fans have repeatedly done the unlikely, turning a failed movie into a long-running and much loved television series (Buffy), turning a canceled series into a movie destined to become a cult classic (Firefly, Serenity), and then tuning repeat screenings of that movie into a series of nationwide popular fundraising events to keep the fandom alive while promoting and supporting gender equality. We Whedon fans have a tendancy to buck the system, go against the norm, and generally misbehave. Now, the Browncoats of Tennessee Valley aim to misbehave again. Join us in Middle Tennessee for our Can't Stop the Serenity - all-Whedon Weekend. The weekend's events will be held at Camp Y.I. in LaVergne, TN, offering us a rustic setting for our proverbial trip to the rim planets. Take a weekend off from the high-tech activities of the core planets and reserve your bunk for the Can't Stop the Serenity Weekend! Dates: August 7-9, 2009 Location: Camp Y.I. 599 Jones Mill Rd. LaVergne, TN Accomodations: The camp ground has everything we'll need for the weekend 19 open air cabins, each of which will sleep 8-10 people in bunk beds. (Probably more than enough for your family or group to have one to yourselves.) 3 shower houses, conveniently located near the cabins. Yes, we'll be "out in the black" but that doesn't mean you can't have running water and flushing toilets. A fully equipped commercial kitchen where group meals will be prepared for you, and an air conditioned dining hall that seats 150 people. An open air lodge with a simple stage and plenty of space for activities, group discussions, and fun contests A campfire ring in case we want to spend some time telling Reaver stories and making s'mores. Optional bunk space in a 40 bed air conditioned dorm for those who can't take the heat (additional fee required). Registration Levels: * All registration levels should be prepared to bring extra cash for Saturday's continental breakfast, Saturday's fundraiser lunch, snacks for the movie, buying items from the charity silent auction or "Serenity's Salvage Yard" group yard sale * Full weekend registrants should bring a "picnic" dinner for Friday evening, when we plan to have everyone get together for a brief orientation and crew intros followed by socializing with your new temporary shipmates. * All overnight registrants should bring bedding for their twin-sized bunk, or air mattress and bedding for the floor. Tent camping is also an option for those who prefer more privacy or less walls. 1.) Full Weekend, adult - $75 - includes 2 nights stay in your open air cabin bunk, dinner Saturday night, brunch Sunday morning, all scheduled programming, contests, events, Browncoats Ball, Dr. Horrible screening, and Serenity screening 2.) One Night, adult - $60 - includes 1 night stay in your open air cabin bunk, dinner Saturday night, brunch Sunday morning, programming scheduled after noon on Saturday through closing on Sunday, Browncoats Ball, Dr. Horrible screening, and Serenity Screening 3.) Day Trip, all ages - $15 - includes Brunch on Sunday during the Dr. Horrible screening, Serenity screening. 4.)Family Rate, 2 adults, all children under 13 - $175 - includes full weekend priveleges for 2 adults (from the same household/family) and all children under 13 of those two adults. * Each person wishing a space in the air conditioned dorm must pay an additional $10, regardles of 1 or 2 night registration. Also, pre-registration is highly recommended as that dorm has a limited amount of beds. To find out more information or to register, go to http://www.whedonitesunited.com or call us at 615.260.9659. Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you there! |

Nashville's event is over, and during the last few weeks we've settled our expenses, collected a couple final donations, and tallied all our totals. As you know, Nashville's event was more than a Serenity screening. We held a 3 day con-style event at a rustic summer camp. Our event included two auctions, two raffles, classes and workshops on various Whedon topics, a Shindig with a costume contest, a Dr. Horrible screening, meals, trivia, games, and a great bunch of people. We had a crew of ten and 40 guests, and even with such a small crowd (relatively speaking) and this being our first CSTS event in Nashville, we feel we did a good job and got some great results. Our total raised for Equality Now, Nashville CARES, and Kids Need to Read: $2001.13 |

Thank you! I can't even put into words how happy I am about the amount we raised. I wasn't kidding when I said it shocked all of us. |
