Affiliate City

Afternoon all *waving*. I live in a town about 15 min away from Pasadena, CA and saw this website advertised in a comic book I read on a regular basis. I know that I can't dedicate enough time to do a theatre screening or get involved with that because of my work schedule HOWEVER I would be a great affiliate and would LOOOVEE to do a BBQ over at my place.
I looked around on the website and boards and really feel a bit overwelmed and confused at all the info. What is neccessary to do an affilate event and what kind of advertising would be the best??
Think of me as a blank slate total noob who needs a step by step on this subject.

affiliate cities is a new concept, so we're all a bit noobish on this one.

basically you organise you're bbq/fundraising event to coincide with the events so with a week or two of june 23rd. and the money goes to Equality Now. pretty simple. you get listed on the main page as an affiliate city and your total goes on display an added to the grand total.

I believe you'll be able to avoid all the licensing and regulations by having a private viewing at your home. You can use your own copy of Serenity and show any complimentary programs you care to, including Firefly episodes.
You won't run into any problems so long as you don't charge admission and donations are completely optional. You also have to be sure not to advertise to the general public. Only e-mails & notices to your friends and local Browncoat group. Then they can invite even more folks, etc.
I would be curious how affiliate cities would handle things like t-shirts, merchandise and prizes. Anyone have answers on that?
Basically you'll get to have all the fun of a charity screening but on a smaller scale and with a lot less headaches.

The main headache is private or public screening. If you are hosting this in your home, with friends, then you don't need to worry about licensing issues. As for t-shirts, raffles - it is your home, and up to you. I don't see why you can informally sell a t-shirt in your own home.
