I am hoping to organise some sort of event in the UK. At present I have contacted my local cinema - the Phoenix Arts in Leicester - with regards the possibility of showing Serenity. If they agree to the use of the cinema, it’s looking like we would have to pay £115 (up-front) for 20 tickets, plus £3 for every extra ticket. I think this seems fairly reasonable, but obviously we would want to raise a lot more money for Equality Now which would possibly bump up the ticket prices.

My only reservations would be the timing, as I would like to get it shown before the Uni students leave. Once the students go home we will lose quite a few potential bums on seats.

Once I know more about whether the cinema is interested, I will put plans under way to get other things sorted out. Are any others in the area interested in helping out or organising some sort of sister event?

The UK really seems to be lagging in sorting these things out!

It has been confirmed that a screening will go ahead in Leicester at the Phoenix Arts Cinema on Friday 18th July at 6.05p.m.

There is a cafe and bar in the building where we can meet up before and after the screening, and I am working on some extra bits we can do afterwards (more info as soon as I know it).

Tickets will be £5.50 a head but after the cinema has taken their fee the rest will go to Equality Now. If you wish to donate more, feel free!

Hallo!

I'm a new person here in many ways... new to the forums, new to the UK, (slightly) new to Firefly and Serenity...

I moved to Burton on Trent a couple months ago, which is near Leicester, I believe. I lived in Canada up until this May... and I just got into the show in January of this year...

anyways, I'm near Leicester now, I'm a HUGE Firefly fan, and I would love to be in on any new showings or organizing of things, if I could help out...

are there any plans for more screenings or events in the near future?

If by "near future" you mean 2009, then you are just in time!

This year's screenings are over and done with, but I think many folk are gearing up for next year (it really is a never ending cycle). You should think about organizing. I can tell you it is SO rewarding. One of the best things I have been involved with.
