Details for the Vancouver, BC screening:

Date: Sunday, June 22, 2008
Place: The Norm Theatre in the Student Union Building,
at the University of BC.
Time: Doors open at 11 am
Introduction to the movie to begin about 2:45 pm.

Added activities include a costume contest, silent auction, door prizes and singing, with more to announce later (I hope!).

Items for the silent auction so far include Smallville, S6 DVD set, autographed by most of the cast; Smallville S7 script, autographed by the cast; at least one set of "Spike" comics with one of the covers autographed by James Marsters.

This year 10% of our net proceeds will be going to the B.C. Women's Hospital and Health Centre Foundation, which is the fundraising arm of a the only facility in the province devoted exclusively to the health of women, newborns and families, through the hospital, health centre and research section.

Just to let everyone know, Jewel will not be appearing in person after all. A business-related commitment came up on the weekend which she couldn't turn down - and we wouldn't have asked her to - so she will be videotaping a Q & A segment, based on questions from some of our local Browncoats. We are pleased that she offered to do this - the woman definitely has class!

We finally received the bill from the theatre late last week and the financials have been checked by three other people so we can now announce the total money raised by Vancouver was $2,967.92 (Canadian). Of that, 10% ($296.79) will be going to BC Women's Hospital & Health Care Foundation. (We're going to round it up to $300 from our bank account.) The total going to Equality Now will be $2,671.13 CDN. Unfortunately, the Canadian dollar has fallen several cents since June/July, so our actual US total will be less than that.

Overall, we raised a bit more than last year and our EN contribution should end up being about the same as last year so, although not ecstatic, we are quite pleased.

Kate was finally able to get the Money Order yesterday and I've sent a copy to Jennifer so now we just wait for the confirmation from EN. With the rapidly falling Canadian dollar, the US total comes to $2,187.47, almost $500 lost because the theatre was so slow sending us the bill! Of course, the dollar fell another cent today, so it would have been even worse waiting even one more day!

i sympathise with you. we lost about $800 due to the dollar falling so much from our donation too.
