MORE INFO FOR THE CURIOUS:

Can't Stop the Serenity Global: CSTS is a unique opportunity to indulge your geeky side while doing some good! Since 2006, fans have organized screenings of Joss Whedon's Serenity to raise funds and awareness to support Equality Now in their work for the protection and promotion of the human rights of women around the world.

was founded in 1992 to work for the protection and promotion of the human rights of women around the world. Working with national human rights organizations and individual activists, Equality Now documents violence and discrimination against women and mobilizes international action to support their efforts to stop these human rights abuses.

RAFFLE SWAG

The raffle is one of the most anticipated elements of Can't Stop the Serenity. Companies and individuals support our cause by donating all kinds of great things. We separate those items into about 6-10 raffle packs (depending on how many items we get). In front of each pack is a list of what's inside and a little bucket. If you want to try to win that raffle pack, you may drop as many raffle tickets as you want into its bucket. The more tickets you put in a single bucket, the more chances you have to win!

Immediately following the screening of Serenity, we will draw for the raffle winners and call out the numbers on the raffle tickets. You must be present to win. If your number matches, you get to walk away with all that great swag.

We will also be having an extra-special raffle pack with the primo goodies in it for the event ticket holders. We will draw that winner after the live music. (See for details.) Again, you must be present to win.

Raffle tickets cost $1 each and will be available for sale here online and on the day of the event. You can purchase as many as you want after seeing the merchandise.

If you are interested in donating to the raffle, please contact us at info [at] cstsseattle [dot] org.

This year CSTS Seattle proceeds will be distributed as follows: Equality Now (75%), SB Charities (15%), Northwest Harvest (5% plus food donations), and MOHAI (5%).

More great news! And an updated Raffle prize list!

is offering a very special prize this year, and you don't even need to buy a raffle ticket to win!
All CSTS Seattle ticket holders will be entered in a drawing to win two weekend passes to Emerald City Comicon 2012 and an exclusive backstage meet-and-greet with one of the media guests (for the winner and a guest)!

The value of the passes alone is a huge donation, but the meet-and-greet opportunity is above and beyond the call of generosity. The meet-and-greet is exactly what it says: exclusive. It will be almost private access to the star (TBD) and an opportunity to take a photo with him/her and get something signed.

In addition to the raffle, we have some really top-notch swag this year that will be auctioned off. Prepurchased raffle tickets not used in any raffle baskets can be used at their face value ($1 each) for auction items. Thanks Lioness! We also received 2 passes to the Jet City Comic Show and lunch at the show for the winner and guest with star William Katt (probably best known for his roles in The Greatest American Hero and Carrie) ()
It's really coming down to the wire and ticket sales are slow so I've got my fingers crossed that we get a lot of walkups on Saturday otherwise it's not looking promising for an event next year. Sigh...

Thank you, Gayle. I appreciate the good thoughts. We had a little over a hundred people come for the full event. Not too many walk-ups this year, possibly due to other festivals, the closure of the major highway nearby and event fatigue by folks who have come every year previously.
We covered the expenses with the attendee tickets so we're relieved by that. The raffle brings in the money for the donation and we'll be counting that up today. We tried having a silent auction along with our raffle and that didn't do as well. Partly from lack of time and IMHO, partly from the high starting bids for some of the items. People who come to our events aren't willing to start bidding at $100 for a print of a a picture. We did have some better luck with the two items we auctioned off live after the movie. We auctioned the Blu-Ray disc of the movie that we had just shown and we auctioned the Jet City Comic Con tickets and private lunch with William Katt.
A lot of the credit for getting the audience involved goes to our fantastic emcees. They are entertainers to the max and the folks love the "show".
I'll put more on the "what worked" and "what didn't work" threads later. For now, I'm recovering with coffee and going to see a friend's movie short at the Maelstrom International Fantasy Film Festival.
Overall, I'm pleased with how it went this year but we will most likely be scaling back next year and possibly even do an affiliate event. Andrea & I are just plain tired. Yawn...

Our photographer, Kat Cheney, put together a video with several hundred shots of our event and added background music from Vixy & Tony. You might even see a familiar face or two!

PS. I couldn't figure out how to embed a video that isn't YouTube so the link will have to do.
